Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from punishment. (Joel 2:13b) Let us return to God, confessing our sin, and seeking God's mercy: Prayer of Confession Forgive us, God, for we have sinned. We have made our dwelling place in the world in which we live with its worldly values and frustrations and fears. We have become more comfortable where we can self-focus and kvetch and cry not for others, but for our own pain and suffering. Hear our prayers, O God. Draw us near to you, and teach us compassion and peace. Teach us to weep for the things that break your heart. Teach us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Make of us a people that reflects the love you have shown for all creation, that we may be agents of transformation in the world according to your steadfast love. Assurance of God's Grace And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another, for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18) Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week. 10/24/2023 0 Comments Call to Worship, P+22AGather in, you who dwell in God,
and you who have only visited, and you who do not know God whatsoever. Mortals whose life is like grass, from everlasting to everlasting God is God. Let us rejoice in the Lord our God! Deuteronomy 34:1-12 www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+34%3A1-12&version=NRSVUE

for though they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their senseless hearts were darkened. (Romans 1:21) Let us confess our senselessness before God and seek God's mercy: Prayer of Confession We claim to be your children, O God, yet we are not lovers of justice. We are perpetuators of injustice. We claim to be followers of Christ, yet we are uncomfortable with equity because it threatens our perception of power. We expect that our faith ancestry, tracing back to Jacob and Rebekah, grants us privilege, but like our ancestors before us, we have not kept your decrees or statutes. Forgive us, we pray! Hear our prayers for mercy! Open our eyes and ears to truth, and teach us to be lovers of justice and creators of equity in a world that is starving for righteousness and peace. Assurance of God's Grace God's mercy is from everlasting to everlasting. (Psalm 103:17) Hear the Good News: in the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week. 10/17/2023 0 Comments Call to Worship, P+21ATremble at the name of the Lord,
for the Lord our God is holy. Come into God's presence with shouts of praise. Our God is a God of justice. Our God is a God of righteousness. Let us extol the God of Jacob and Rebekah. Let us worship with gratitude and awe! Exodus 33:12-23 www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=exodus+33%3A12-23&version=NRSVUE

where are you? The world is at war! Children are dying. Elderly are being tortured. Young women are being raped. Young men are being riddled with bullets. In Israel. In Gaza. In Ukraine. In Russia. In the streets of our cities. In the homes of social media influencers and the affluent as well as the poverty-stricken. Where are you, God? Has justice escaped us? Is righteousness out of reach? Our hearts are broken! Remember us, O Lord! Draw your children near to you. Comfort your people in their time of pain. Stand in the breach, we pray. Do not destroy us! Show us your might, O God! Help us to trust in your favor. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers. *photo credit: Chrystal Holmes |
