Prayers of the People, E4A

Picture
O Lord, Sovereign God, Redeemer, Holy One,
we come to your sanctuary carrying burdens that feel
too great to bear.
Our hearts have been broken by the careless words
of those who lash out from unfathomable pain
at any and all who are in their path.
Help us to heal one another
in ways that are honest and respectful and kind.
Be present, we pray,
with all who are struggling
to stand firm in the faith,
to do what is right,
in the face of vitriol and hatred.
Grant courage, Lord,
to bear the storms that threaten to overtake us.
Help us to trust in your presence.
Open our eyes to your image in your children
everywhere.
Make us covenant-carriers, God,
that we might dance with joy
from our churches,
into our streets,
and all the way home,
singing your praises in gratitude
for your steadfast love and faithfulness.
Amen.

Prayer of Confession, E4A

Picture
Call to Confession

So then, putting away falsehood, let each of (us) speak the truth with (our) neighbor, for we are members of one another. (Ephesians 4:25) Let us confess our sin before God, in the company of our siblings in Christ, and seek God's mercy:

Prayer of Confession

Do no look at us without grace, O God.
We are not truth-tellers.
We are conspiracy spreaders.
We are creators of alternative facts.
We spread falsehoods like viruses,
and build our belief systems on fear and suspicion.
We slander those with whom we disagree
in passive agressive memes on social media
behind the safety of anonymity
and intimidation.
We shame our sisters in Christ
for making choices about their bodies and their lives
that we cannot fathom having to make.
We hoard our money,
loaning it at ridiculously high interest rates,
if we can be persuaded to share our wealth with others
at all.
We sell our children for a price.
Forgive us, we pray,
and renew a right spirit within us.
Remind us who we are and whose we are
and teach us how to live
as those who will not be moved.

Assurance of God's Grace

God has promised that when we confess our sin, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sin, removing it as far as the east is from the west and remembering it no more. Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

Call to Worship, E4A

Picture
All who are wondering ...
pondering ...
meditating ...
on what it means to abide in God's temple,
make yourself at home
in the shelter of God's unconditional love.
All who are seeking
to dwell in the comfort of God's protection,
accept God's hospitality
extended in grace.
With joy and thanksgiving
for God's welcome,
let us worship God.

Call to Worship, E3A

Picture
Are you feeling fearful
or alone?
Are you in need of a refuge
or shelter from the storm?
Do you feel hunted
or surrounded by enemies?
God's GOT you.
Come and worship, friends.
THIS is a place of GRACE.

Julie served as a Commissioned Ruling Elder in a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation for thirteen years. She now absolutely delights in filling the pulpit for colleagues upon request, and looks forward to opportunities to do so. Her reformed perspective is sprinkled with humor and presented with authenticity, and she is open to creatively deconstructing worship as a means to helping congregants explore worship in transformational ways.

Julie and her husband, Ray, are parents of three adult children, and grandparents of four energetic and imaginative little people. She is an introverted-with-enough-extrovert-balance-to-keep-her-social, perfectionistic-with-hopper-tendencies, time and goal-oriented, kaleidoscopic, and insatiably curious child of God.

Julie participated in the 25th Seminar for Certified Zentangle(R) Teacher Training in June, 2019, trained by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. In addition to creating art as a personal spiritual practice, Julie also incorporates the Zentangle(R) method in Prayer Art Retreats in a variety of contexts, including church groups, friend gatherings, and at a local art gallery.
