Prayer of Confession, E3C

Picture
Call to Confession

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) Let us confess our sin before God and seek God's mercy:

Prayer of Confession

Standing before you, O God,
our hearts laid bare
at the sound of your voice,
we beseech you:
forgive us!
Over and over
and over,
we have betrayed you.
Hear us as we
renew our devotion to you
and promise to feed your lambs
no matter what words they use
to describe themselves;
to feed your sheep,
whatever their race or gender
or creed;
to feed your people,
running in fear
from war-torn
and gang-infested places
where poverty and oppression
are rampant.
We will feed them, Lord,
with love and mercy,
just as you would do.

Assurance of God's Grace

God has promised that when we confess our sin, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sin, removing it as far as the east is from the west, and remembering it no more. (Psalm 103:12, Hebrews 8:12) Hear the Good News: in the name of Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter.

Call to Worship, E3C

Picture
Come, you disciples,
you laborers,
unsure what to do with your
waiting time.
Come to the shore,
dragging your nets --
full and running over --
and be warmed by the fire
and nourished at the
Table
which Christ has set for you.
Come
and worship the risen Lord.

Prayer of Confession, E2C

Picture
Call to Confession

Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38) Let us confess our sins before God, and seek God's mercy:

Prayer of Confession

In our solitude,
in our darkness,
in our fear-filled grief,
we tend to isolate ourselves
from the very community
we need most,
who will witness to Christ-among-us,
and help us to believe
even where we cannot understand.
Forgive us, we pray,
and draw us into
to your all-encompassing love.
Help us to embrace hope
in the midst of despair,
to experience joy
when wrestling with pain,
and to celebrate life
when confronted with death.
We believe, Lord.
Help our unbelief.

Assurance of God's Grace

God did not send God's Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. (John 3:17) Hear the Good News: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

Prayers of the People, EC

Picture
Teacher!
In wonder and awe
we approach the empty tomb
this Easter day!
Your victory over death
still amazes us,
and we sing our alleluias
with glad and grateful hearts.

Hear our prayers, O God,
for those who come looking for you
and do not understand what they find.
Send your church
to embrace them, we pray,
and to speak their names
in love.

Hear our prayers, O God,
for those who come weeping ...
grieving and in pain.
Send your church
to comfort them
with reassurance and the message
of hope
that resurrection is assured
in the name of Jesus.

Hear our prayers, O God,
for those who wait in upper rooms,
still processing the shouts for destruction
and the images of blood poured out
on the ground,
fearful and in despair.
Send your church
with a message of hope ...
with the Good News of the gospel
that Christ is risen!
Risen indeed!
That death has been swallowed up
in victory!

Hear our prayers
for your church, O God,
that every encounter with the holy,
every act of compassionate ministry,
every proclamation of the Word,
brings glory to you
and a message of redemption
to a world that desperately longs
to be made whole.

Playlist, Holy Week, Year C

Picture
Maundy Thursday:

Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us with Your Love
Lord God, Your Love Has Called Us Here
An Upper Room Did Our Lord Prepare
Servant Song
Lord, Speak to Me that I May Speak
You Satisfy A Hungry Heart
Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us
Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me
Jesus Loves Me
O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee
Jesus, Thy Boundless Love To Thee
We Gather Together
Lord, I Want to Be a Christian
Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is Calling
O Love, That Wilt Not Let Me Go
Be Known to Us in Breaking Bread
They'll Know We Are Christians
He Came Down
How Clear is Our Vocation
Make Me a Servant
What a Friend We Have in Jesus

Good Friday:

O Sacred Head, Now Wounded
Were You There
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
Go to Dark Gethsemane
I Danced in the Morning
Lamb of God
Beneath the Cross of Jesus
Lead On, O King Eternal
In the Cross of Christ I Glory
He Never Said a Mumblin' Word
A Prophet-Woman Broke a Jar

Easter Sunday:

Thine Be the Glory
Christ the Lord is Risen Today
The Day of Resurrection
Jesus Christ is Risen Today
Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain
Woman Weeping in the Garden
My Faith Looks Up to Thee
O Day of Rest and Gladness
Crown Him with Many Crowns
Rejoice, the Lord is King
This is the Day that the Lord has Made
Breathe on Me, Breath of God
You, Lord, are Both Lamb and Shepherd
Amen
Because You Live, O Christ

Prayer of Confession, EC

Picture
Call to Confession

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.  (I John 4:7-8) In the name of Love, let us approach the throne of grace and seek God's mercy.

Prayer of Confession

We come before you, O God,
as those who shouted "Hosanna! Save us!"
and then turned from you
and denied knowing you.
We come as those who walked behind
without following
and fell asleep waiting.
We come as those who did not speak up
when you were persecuted
or carry your cross
or even stay with you
to help bear your pain
at crucifixion.
We come as those who have witnessed
the laying down of life
and the conquering of death
in the name of love
to say "Thanks be to God!"
and "Blessed is the One who comes
in the name of the Lord!"
Hear our confessions, O God of Majesty.
Hear our deep regret,
and raise us to new life in you, we pray.

Assurance of God's Grace

thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine. (Isaiah 43:1) Hear the Good News: in the name of Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thank be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

Julie served as a Commissioned Ruling Elder in a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation for thirteen years. She now absolutely delights in filling the pulpit for colleagues upon request, and looks forward to opportunities to do so. Her reformed perspective is sprinkled with humor and presented with authenticity, and she is open to creatively deconstructing worship as a means to helping congregants explore worship in transformational ways.

Julie and her husband, Ray, are parents of three adult children, and grandparents of four energetic and imaginative little people. She is an introverted-with-enough-extrovert-balance-to-keep-her-social, perfectionistic-with-hopper-tendencies, time and goal-oriented, kaleidoscopic, and insatiably curious child of God.
