6/28/2023 0 Comments Prayer of Confession, P+5ACall to Confession
No one finds security by wickedness, but the root of the righteous will never be moved. (Proverbs 12:3) Let us confess our wickedness before God, and seek God's righteousness: Prayer of Confession Forgive us, O God, for we are indeed wicked. We have heard the truth and refused to acknowledge it. We have promised to follow your example and then committed ourselves to idols instead. We pretend to be disciples, but we have not learned the lessons of love and inclusiveness and warm hospitality and grace that you have taught us. No. We wage war on love. We exclude the other. We have made bullying acceptable. We have turned our wrath loose on the world as if we had never even heard the word grace. And we do it all claiming you have ordained it. Forgive us, we pray, and do not let the enemy prevail over us. Transform our hearts, and make us into the people you have called us to be. Restore to us the JOY of your salvation, and teach us again how to love as you love. Assurance of God's Grace "For God so loved the world that God gave God's only Son that whosoever believeth in him would not perish, but would have everlasting life. God did not send God's Son to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." (John 3:16-17) Hear the Good News: In Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

And I said, “Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” (Isaiah 6:5) Let us confess our uncleanness before the Lord of hosts, and see forgiveness for our souls: Prayer of Confession Forgive us, God, for we have failed you. Instead of lifting the cup of salvation -- the cup of freedom -- we restrict access to your Table to only those we deem worthy. Instead of calling upon your name to right the wrongs being done to your children, we commit those wrongs and claim we do it in your name. Instead of completing what we are called to do as Christ-followers, we look for work-arounds, ways to keep earthly power or we cower in fear of those who wield it. We refuse to listen to you or to the marginalized, and in doing so, we deny others the life-giving love we have known ourselves as a result of your amazing grace. Forgive us, we pray, and free us to listen others into life according to your faithful example. Assurance of God's Grace For the love of Christ urges us on, because we are convinced that one has died for all; therefore all have died. 15 And he died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves but for the one who for their sake died and was raised. (2 Corinthians 5:14-15) Hear the Good News: Christ died for all, and in Christ's name, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week. 6/13/2023 0 Comments Call to Worship, P+3ACome, you who are heart-sick,
soul-sick, body-sick, brain-sick. Come, call on the name of the Healer, the Lord. Come, raise your voice in supplication. God is listening. Come you have recovered, who have knocked on Death's door and walked away from it. Come, sing your songs of praise; offer your sacrifices of thanksgiving. God is listening. it is written: “There is no one who is righteous, not even one; (Romans 3:10) Let us confess our sin before God and seek God's mercy: Prayer of Confession Here we are, God, coming before you once again with Babel pretense, thinking ourselves holier than you, wearing piety like royal robes, believing we have all the answers, creating power schemes to control the other. It was you who made all people equal, long before we declared it to be so and then did everything we could to undermine it. It was you who elevated the marginalized and gave them a seat at the table. It was you. But in your name, we have decided who is in and who is out, who can speak and who must remain silent, who makes the decisions for whom and who must abide by them. Forgive us, God. This is not who you called us to be. Open our minds. Transform our hearts. Teach us what it means to love as you love -- all of creation bathed in beauty and celebrated with joy and glad thanksgiving. Assurance of God's Grace ... God is why you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 in order that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord." (1 Corinthians 1:30-31) Hear the Good News: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week. |
