Call to Worship, Advent 2 C

Picture
The prophet is calling.
Come.
Step away from your ritual cleansings
and into the muddy waters,
and be changed,
not by the waters themselves,
but by the Eternal One
and by the Spirit of God
at work in you.
Come
and worship.

Prayers of the People, A1C

Son of Man,
come.
Come in a blaze of glory!
Come in power ...

Sunday Prayer, A1C, posted: https://revgalblogpals.org/2021/11/28/sunday-prayer-bring-redemption/

NOTE: On odd numbered months, the Prayers of the People (aka Sunday Prayer) is posted on the RevGalBlogPals site on Sunday mornings. RevGalBlog Pals is an international community of clergywomen and men who support women in ministry.

P.S. Starting tomorrow, RevGalBlogPals is taking a Sacred Pause until the first Sunday of Lent, for prayer and discernment and for the much-needed rest of weary souls. Prayers will continue to be posted on this site as consistently as I can make them happen. If these prayers make a difference for you ... if you find the ministry of A Place of Grace -- an intentionally offering-based ministry -- transformative, wonder-filled, and healing, please consider supporting A Place of Grace this Giving Tuesday (November 30th) with your own offerings at http://www.PayPal.me/Julie Gvillo. Thank you, and God bless~

Prayer of Confession, A1C

Picture
Call to Confession

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near. (Matthew 3:2) Let us repent before God, confessing our sin, and turning from our wicked ways:

Prayer of Confession

Send help, God!

All Hell has broken loose!
Creation is in an uproar,
and threats of doom
have knocked the very wind out of us.
Fear and trembling gripped us
but then …
we brushed it off ...
we got distracted …
we fell asleep at the wheel.
Forgive us, we pray.
Refocus our attention on
this moment, O God.
Tune us into the world around us.
Open our ears to your eternal Word.
In your mercy, Lord,
grant us strength and wisdom
to actively prepare for the moment
when you return in glory
that we might welcome you in the grand style
befitting the Son of Man.

Assurance of God's Grace

Arise, shine; for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. (Isaiah 60:1)

Believe the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

Prayer of Confession, Reign of Christ Sunday, Year B

Picture
Call to Confession

the kingdom of God is not food and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17) Let us confess the places where we have failed to live into the righteousness, peace, and joy of the Spirit in the world, and seek God's mercy.

Prayer of Confession

Before the throne, we stand, Almighty God,
and King of kings.
We are the summoners
who demand answers
about your authority
and where it lies.
We are the parade-throwers
who are calling into question
everything
we thought we believed
because angry leaders,
drunk on power
and afraid of being exposed for their unholy greed,
have denied the truth
and led the people astray,
and all in the name of "righteousness."
Forgive us, God.
Set your kingdom on earth to rights
through the words of the Prophet.
Grant us the grace of the Great High Priest
that we may live in the hope of new life.
Pardon us by the power of the King, we pray,
and release us to live as restored citizens
according to the will of God in Jesus Christ.

Assurance of God's Grace

The Lord has taken away the judgments against you,
he has turned away your enemies.
The king of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst;
you shall fear disaster no more.  (Zephaniah 3:15)
Friends, the King of Israel has come, and will come again. In his name, we are saved from the disastrous consequences of our sin. Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

Call to Worship, Reign of Christ Sunday, Year B

Picture
Citizens of the kin-dom,
step forward.
Those who belong to the Truth,
listen to the voice
of your King.
Leaders and followers,
you who are uncertain of your allegiance,
come and inquire.
God is bigger than your questions
and loves you in spite of your fear.
Come and worship.

Prayers of the People, P+25B

Sovereign God,
in the midst of chaos, you are calm;
in the center of unrest, you are peace.
Quiet our spirits
and focus ...

Prayer of Confession, P+25B

Picture
Call to Confession
Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks! Occasions for stumbling are bound to come, but woe to the one by whom the stumbling block comes! (Matthew 18:7) Let us confess our sin before God, and seek God’s mercy.

Prayer of Confession
Teacher, forgive us!
We are impressed with our open displays of grandiosity,
with the systems we create that manufacture wealth
while the poor can’t feed themselves,
and we are even more impressed
with the ways in which we use that wealth
to pretend to honor you
while we dodge paying our fair share
to care for the most vulnerable
among us.
We buy into the rhetoric of doomsday deceivers
and idolize the self-proclaimed saviors,
warring against ourselves
in the name of loyalty.
Hear our prayers, O God,
and save us from our own arrogance!
Reconcile us, one to another, we pray.
Help us to see beyond our own egos
to the needs of your children everywhere.
Re-ignite in us a passion for ministry
as we have witnessed it
in the living, breathing, walking-around example
of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Assurance of God’s Grace
Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me.” (John 14:1) In the name of Jesus, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

Call to Worship, P+25B

Picture
You who are looking
for signs of God’s activity,
come.
You who are exhausted by wars
and rumors of war,
by demagogues
and earthquake
and famine,
come.
You who are longing
for the birth of new life,
come.
Your God awaits
with a voice of calm assurance,
speaking peace to your spirit,
and holding you
in the center of God’s love.
Let us worship God.

Julie served as a Commissioned Ruling Elder in a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation for thirteen years. She now absolutely delights in filling the pulpit for colleagues upon request, and looks forward to opportunities to do so. Her reformed perspective is sprinkled with humor and presented with authenticity, and she is open to creatively deconstructing worship as a means to helping congregants explore worship in transformational ways.

Julie and her husband, Ray, are parents of three adult children, and grandparents of four energetic and imaginative little people. She is an introverted-with-enough-extrovert-balance-to-keep-her-social, perfectionistic-with-hopper-tendencies, time and goal-oriented, kaleidoscopic, and insatiably curious child of God.
