command your troops to come to earth, we pray. Send your messengers of hope to the hopeless, your Messenger of the Covenant to the leaders of nations all over the world. Come, Emmanuel -- God-With-Us, come! Cleanse the unholy divisiveness that tears us apart and restore to us the joy of salvation! As we journey toward Bethlehem, may our hearts be open to receiving he who came to be the Savior of the world, that living in these last days -- however long they may be -- we might engage fully in kingdom work in preparation for the time when justice and righteousness will reign forever over all of your creation, and love and peace will bind our hearts in perfect unity.

Our God is faithful. Justice and righteousness are executed with love. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence in the One who has promised to forgive and seek God's mercy. Prayer of Confession, Advent 4C Almighty God, you came to live among us, God-with-us, to show us how to live together in love and compassion. As Shepherd-King, you demonstrated leadership that executes justice and righteousness by the rule of love. But we rejected your example. We demanded fame and money and arrogance over humility and service. Our perception of power is skewed. Forgive us, we pray. Heal our division, and lead us into peace, according to your will for us from the beginning of time. Assurance of God's Grace I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33) In the name of Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this day. 12/18/2018 0 Comments Call to Worship, Advent 4CCome, you scattered from the four winds.
Come, you who hunger for righteousness. Come, you anxious and afraid. Come, you who yearn for peace. Come, and kneel before the Lord, whose name is great, whose faithfulness is from everlasting to everlasting. 12/14/2018 0 Comments Prayers of the People, Advent 3COur hearts are singing
to the King of Israel! Our entire beings are filled with joy! Liberation is ours! Our enemies have changed course! We are no longer afraid, for we have been rescued by the Mighty One Hear our prayers, O God, for those still bowed low in deep despair, those who are afraid and sad and drowning in hopelessness. Hear our prayers for the lame, and for the outcasts and for the oppressed. Hear our prayers for those filled with shame. As you gather your people together for remembering and for feasting, Lord, may your church uphold the broken and minister to them with loving kindness and welcome them into the feast of the forgiven, so that they may be restored to wholeness according to your perfect will. 12/12/2018 0 Comments Prayer of Confession, Advent 3CCall to Confession
For the Lord is our judge; the Lord is our lawgiver; the Lord is our king; he will save us. Isaiah 33:22 Prayer of Confession, Advent 3C Mighty Warrior, Commander of Love Armies, hear our prayers of gratitude for you have erased our guilt. We continue to live as those imprisoned by our sin, but you have won the battle for you are fierce, even in your capacity for compassion. Mighty Warrior, Commander of Love Armies, hear our prayers of thanksgiving for you have lifted our burdens. We continue to live as those worn down from despair, but you have set us free by the power of your Word. Mighty Warrior, Commander of Love Armies, hear our prayers of praise for you have returned us to the land of our ancestors ... a land flowing with milk and honey ... a land of hope known as the kingdom of Heaven, present among us here and now. We have not been good citizens of your kingdom for we pass judgment when ours have been reversed, we have not loved as we have been loved, we have kept the disabled disabled and have oppressed the poor. Forgive us, we pray, and restore to us the joy of your salvation. Assurance of God's Grace Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. Revelation12:10 In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this day. 12/11/2018 1 Comment Call to Worship, Advent 3CYou who sit in judgment
and you who are judged, come and greet one another in the welcome of God's unconditional love. You who have confronted disaster and you who are still reeling from it, come running to the safety of God's everlasting arms. You who are crippled by your pain and you who are outcasts from the community, come and be restored in the walls of Zion, in the courts of the Most High God. God rejoices over you. Rejoice over God! 12/7/2018 0 Comments Prayers of the People, Advent 2CGod-of-Angel-Armies,

For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. (Malachi 4:1) Let us confess our sin before God and seek God's mercy. Prayer of Confession, Advent 2C "Look!" the prophets said, quoting you, O Lord. "Look! The One you've been waiting for is on his way!" But we are not looking for a divine Savior. Instead, we try to make Saviors of ourselves and of our human leaders. We do not place our trust in you, O God, but in our own efforts and in those whom WE have called. Forgive our arrogance, we pray. Forgive our lack of faith. As we walk through trials of our own making, refine us ... cleanse us ... make us fit for the work to which we have been called according to your purpose, and open our eyes to see the joy of our salvation in the One you sent and are sending again to be our Redeemer. Assurance of God's Grace Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. (Isaiah 1:18) In the name of Jesus Christ, our sins have been redeemed. Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this day. 12/4/2018 1 Comment Call to Worship, Advent 2CPrepare the way!
Join those who who have come before and those who continue to prepare the way of the Lord. The Lord is coming! He who has come as a child in a manger will come again in glory. Bring your offerings of praise! For the Lord our God will receive your thanksgiving with love and righteousness. |
