Call to Confession

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) Let us confess our sin before God and seek God's mercy.

Prayer of Confession

Parent God,
Forgive us.
We have failed to demonstrate
our love for you
by loving one another.
We choose anger over kindness.
We choose fear over hospitality.
We choose war over peace.
Hear our prayers for mercy,
O God,
and restore a right spirit within us
that we might remember
that we are your people,
and you are our God,
and that this may be evident
in all we say and do.

Assurance of God's Grace

When we confess our sin, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sin and remove it as far as the east is from the west, remembering it no more. (Psalm 103:12 and Hebrews 8:12) Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

You who love God,

Hear our prayers, O God:
for the lonely
and the grieving,
for the imprisoned
and marginalized,
for those in pain
and those who hunger,
for the brave embattled
and the terrorized.
Help us to demonstrate your love for them
in all we say and do.

Hear our prayers, O God:
for those who stand firm for freedom
and those who threaten it,
for those who are oppressed
and those who are the oppressors,
for those who are targeted
and for those who do not understand
their own hatred, prejudice,
and privilege.
Help us to demonstrate your justice
in all we say and do.

Hear our prayers, O God:
for we who are them --
whose brokenness is evident
and whose contributions to anger 
and vitriol 
draw dividing lines,
making enemies of friends
and foes of family.
Transform out hearts.
Make us instruments of peace, O God,
and teach us true kindness,
so that all who seek you
may find you
​in us.
