All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Let us confess our sin before God and seek God's mercy. Prayer of Confession, P19C Your faithfulness is beyond our comprehension, O God, for we are a faithless people, breaking covenant with you, and with each other, until our word no longer matters. We know your law of love, but we do not follow it. Our desires come before our concern for our neighbor. Forgive us we pray, and write your law upon our hearts, so that we may truly be your people and you may truly be our God. Assurance of God's Grace The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah ... I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more. (Jeremiah 31:31, 34) In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this day.

Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or the Lord's ear dull, that it cannot hear; but (our) iniquities have made a separation between (us) and (our) God, and (our) sins have hidden God's face from (us) so that God does not hear. (Isaiah 59:1-2) Let us confess our sin before God, and seek God's mercy. Prayer of Confession, P18C Here we sit, Lord, exiles in a landscape of despair. This is not where we wanted to be when we set out on this journey, yet it is where we have landed. We wander around here, building temporary shelters, but expecting to die in this Godforsaken place. We stopped hoping to be rescued a long time ago, and we have long since lost our way home. Forgive our lack of faith, God. Forgive our failure to trust in your promises. Help us to reach out and form community with those around us who are also suffering, so that together, we might find out way back to you. Assurance of God's Grace God has promised that when we confess our sin, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sin, removing it as far as the east is from the west, and remembering it no more. Take heart ... this is not a permanent address. Put up your temporary mailboxes in the land of hopelessness and fear if you must, but know that God is with you; you are not alone. All who have faith at least the size of a mustard seed are invited. We will gather from the north and south, from the east and west, with all the saints of the kingdom of Heaven from every time and place, and celebrate the feast of thanksgiving. Let us worship God. |
