Call to Confession
Hear, O heavens, and listen, O earth, for the Lord has spoken: I reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against me. (Isaiah 1:2) Let us confess our rebellion against the Lord and seek the Lord's mercy: Prayer of Confession Forgive us, God, for we have failed to look upon your creation with wonder. We no longer marvel at your mystery or delight in your imagination or attempt to grasp the systems you have put in place that gives each creature a life span and a process for maturation. We shun responsibility for stewardship and take on an attitude of entitlement that places humankind in a position of superiority ... and not even all humankind, but certain races and genders and patterns of conformity. Hear our prayers for grace, O God! Hear our prayers for transformation! Help us to see the perfection of beauty in every thing and every one. Help us to hear your voice in the tempest, and cleanse our hearts with the Spirit's fire! You alone are righteous, O God. Teach us to love one another with deep gratitude for mystery and appreciation for our differences. Assurance of God's Grace God has promised that when we confess our sin, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sin, removing it as far as the east is from the west and remembering it no more. Hear the Good News: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.
