Call to Confession

Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us,
    for we have had more than enough of contempt. (Psalm 123:3)
Out of our shame and the contempt of our hearts we cry to the Lord and seek the Lord's mercy. Let us confess our sin before God and be restored to wholeness.

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God,
hear our prayers.
Our siblings in Christ are suffering,
and instead of lifting even a finger to offer them aid,
we go to great lengths to keep from them
any measure of reliable medical intervention.
We price it too high.
We deny them access.
We diminish them and cut them off from the community
by disparaging them
and calling them unclean.
We risk their wellbeing to protect our individual rights.
We refuse to love our neighbor
with the same self-sacrificing love
you lavish on us
unconditionally.
Our sarcasm and disbelief stands in the way
of healers who bring good news
to those who are grieving 
and in pain.
Forgive us, we pray.
Open our minds and hearts
to the new thing you are doing among us,
that we might know the ultimate healing that comes
from being forgiven,
and pass it on.

Assurance of God's Grace

"you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." (1 Peter 2:9) In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
