Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness," and again, "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile." (1 Corinthians 3:18-20) Let us confess our sin before God, and seek God's infinite mercy: Prayer of Confession Forgive us, God. In your name we have taken captives, have enslaved them, have decided their futures, and claimed our right to do so. In your name we have committed atrocities against the other, against the marginalized, against the voiceless on the basis of a faulty interpretation of what it means to be free. Forgive us, God, though we clearly do not deserve it. Forgive us, we beg you! Open our ears to the surprising prophets in our midst. Heal our brokenness, and transform our hearts and our lives and our understanding of community through the obedience that leads to true freedom. In the name of all that is truly holy, may it be so. Amen. Assurance of God's Grace Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. John 13:20. Hear the Good News: in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.
