Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. (Romans 8:33) Let us approach the throne of grace with confidence and seek God’s mercy: Prayer of Confession Loving God, you are our fortress and our strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. Your faithfulness to us is beyond our imagination. Forgive our waywardness, we pray. We have allowed the world and its flash and furor to tear our attention away from you. We have lost patience with waiting, and we lack persistence in asking for the things that matter like wisdom and discernment and peace and reconciliation. We return to you humbly, acknowledging that our voice should be unrecognizable, given our distance from prayer. Yet you, O God, never forget the sound of your children. Gather us near to you, and cover us in your grace that we might remember the mercy you extend to those who call on your name. Assurance of God’s Grace The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you,[a] not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9) Hear the Good News: In Jesus Christ, God’s patience is personified. People of God, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.
