How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? (Proverbs 1:22) Let us confess our simple-mindedness, our scoffing, and our hatred of knowledge before the Lord and seek God's mercy: Prayer of Confession Forgive us, O God, our sins have made us sick; our sins have caused dis-ease in others, in our society, in our world. We have chosen simple-mindedness rather than expansiveness, chosen foolishness over wisdom. Out of our refusal to accept new understandings, we scoff at what we cannot grasp rather than learning to listen ... to broaden our thinking ... to open our eyes and our hearts to someone else's experience. We further limit our opportunities to learn and grow by shutting down avenues where learning takes place. We ban books. We legislate diversity, equity, and inclusion. We segregate ourselves and demand that those unlike us "return to the places from which they came." Send out your word, O God, and heal us, for we are far from the example you set for us in Christ. Transform our hearts, we pray, that we may heal one another and the world. Assurance of God's Grace (The Lord) forgives all our iniquity, who heals all our diseases, 4 ... redeems our life from the Pit, ... (and) crowns us with steadfast love and mercy, ... (Psalm 103:3-4) Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.
