For waywardness kills the simple, and the complacency of fools destroys them; (Proverbs 1:32) Oh, how wayward we have gone, complacent in our foolishness and even defending it instead of confessing the error of our ways. Let us confess it now, and seek God's mercy. Prayer of Confession Son of Man, forgive us. We are the wealthy, comfortable in our security, and unwilling to give sacrificially for the good of the neighbor in need. Teacher, forgive us. We are the gluttons who eat from the fatted calf until we fall asleep in our plates, while those around us are starving for even a morsel of the feast we leave on the table. Redeemer, forgive us. We laugh as we scorn and belittle and label and tear down, and instead of becoming part of a solution, we create a greater chasm to be bridged. Speak to us in our folly, through the words of those we respect and will hear. Teach us how to follow in your footsteps, to love as we have been loved, and to right the wrongs that cause pain in your most vulnerable children, so that all people everywhere will know the blessing of abundance. Assurance of God's Grace Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6) This is the Good News: Christ came to feed our spiritual hunger, and in Christ, the Bread of Life, we find sustenance for our souls. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.
