start with the ABCs. To grow in wisdom, read for understanding. To internalize, live it. For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work and the love that you showed for his sake in serving the saints, ... (Hebrews 6:10) Let us confess our sin, and seek God's mercy. Prayer of Confession Lord God, we come before you confessing that we have not turned from evil or delighted in your law. Our focus is on creating discontent to match the anger that lives inside us. We twist the meaning of righteousness to fit our particular bent, to call ourselves and those who agree with us "righteous" instead of humbly checking our beliefs and behaviors in the light of scripture, but our social media memes betray our intent. We are hardly gracious or merciful. We define justice by how it impacts the powerful rather than the powerless. We do not extend generosity to the poor, but hoard our resources out of distrust and fear. Forgive us, we pray, and grant us the courage to re-examine our selves according to the law of love lived by Jesus, your Son, when he walked among us, as an example of true righteousness and light. Assurance of God's Grace For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, ... (Titus 2:11) Hear the Good News: in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week. |
