Call to Confession

O that the Lord would remember us when showing favor to God's people,
that the Lord would help us when delivering them. (Psalm 106:4 paraphrased)
Let us call upon the Lord for help and seek God's mercy: 

Prayer of Confession 

Forgive us, God,
for we have come to believe 
that we are not even a little lower than you,
but that we are equal --
or even greater --
than you.
We have taken the dominion
you entrusted to us
and misused
and abused it.
We have crowned ourselves
and our leaders
with undeserved honor.
We have tarnished the glory
of intelligence
and compassion.
Forgive us, we pray.
We do know what we are doing,
and we do it anyway.
In your mercy, O God,
remind us of our mortality,
humble our hearts in the vastness
of the universe.
Remind us that power comes with
responsibility
to love and serve according
to Christ's example.
Rescue us from the natural, logical consequences
of our grievous behavior
and teach us to love 
as you love us.

Assurance of God's Grace

God so loved the world that God sent God's only Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. God did not send God's Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through him. (John 3:16-17) Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
