Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. (1 John 4:8) Let us confess our lack of love for God and for one another and seek God's mercy: Prayer of Confession God of mercy, forgive us! We praise you with our lips and then decry our neighbors. We exalt your name with our words and then tear down those who are not like us. You delivered us, but we took the credit, claiming to be self-made, boasting about pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps, and insinuating that others can and should do the same in spite of the unjust systems we have established for our own benefit. Hear our prayers for mercy, O God! You are compassionate toward us; teach us to be compassionate toward others. Your grace overflows for us; inspire us to let that grace overflow. You love us in spite of our selfishness; help us to love our neighbor as you love us. Assurance of God's Grace God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1 John 4:9-10) Hear the Good News: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.
