Call to Confession

The psalmist cries:
Deliver me from bloodshed, O God,
    O God of my salvation,
    and my tongue will sing aloud of your deliverance.
Let us confess our sin before God, and seek God's deliverance:

Prayer of Confession

Forgive us, God,
for your restored our fortunes,
but we did not give you credit.
You set us on solid ground,
but we did not even acknowledge it 
beneath us.
We whined and complained 
that we were not richer,
and we hoarded what we had
instead of sharing it generously
with those who had not.
You did great things for us, O God,
but we complained about our portion
helping others.
We groaned about being neighbors
to nations who looked to us for support.
We prostituted ourselves to idols
who do not practice the law of Love
or any other law they see as burdensome
or inconvenient.
Lord, in your mercy, forgive us, we pray.
Let the consequences of our choices
be made real to us,
that we may learn from what we have done,
but do not let those who already suffer
suffer more because of our greed.
Have mercy on us, 
and show us how to right the ship,
that all who go out weeping,
bearing seeds for sowing
may come back shouting for joy
and carrying a harvest of plenty.

Assurance of God's Grace

Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1) Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
