Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) Let us stand before God and confess our failure to follow where Christ leads: Prayer of Confession Light of the World, forgive us. We are children of light, yet we choose darkness. We choose cruelty and hatred instead of kindness and love. We choose power and greed for ourselves instead of justice for our neighbor. We choose half-truths and lies instead of truth. We choose denial instead of honesty. It is easier to look out for ourselves than to embrace someone who is different from us in ideology, culture, social status, or gender orientation. Wake us up, O God! Raise us from the darkness of sin and death, and shine your light on us! Have mercy on us, we pray, and give us the wisdom to test our attitudes and our actions against your Law of Love as you revealed in your life among us. Assurance of God's Grace He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption,[h] the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:13-14) Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.
