Call to Confession
Out of the depths we cry to you, O Lord! (Psalm 130:1) Let us confess our iniquity before God and seek God's mercy: Prayer of Confession Forgive us, O God, for we have placed humans on thrones, giving them equality with you, as if that were even possible, as if we had such authority. In our arrogance, we have called humans "saviors," and referred to them as our "retribution." We have placed them on equal footing with Jesus, himself, and have worshiped them with unfaltering devotion. Forgive our idolatry, we pray. Open our eyes to the ways in which we enthrone fallible humans for our own gain. Re-orient our devotion to you, whose sovereignty is above all earthly rulers and whose steadfast love and faithfulness is beyond reproach. Assurance of God's Grace When we confess our sin, God, who is faithful and just, forgives us our sin and removes it as far as the east is from the west, remembering it no more. (Psalm 103:12, Hebrews 8:12) Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.
