O Jerusalem, wash your heart clean of wickedness so that you may be saved. How long shall your evil schemes lodge within you? (Jeremiah 4:14) Let us confess our sins before God that God might "create in (us) a new heart and renew a right spirit within (us)" (Psalm 51:10): Prayer of Confession O Shepherd of Israel, forgive us! We have closed our ears to you. We have strayed away like sheep without a shepherd while you have called to us to follow. You came to save us, but we refused to be rescued, turning to our own ways instead of walking the path you set for us. Our neighbors scorn us, and rightly so, for we say we believe in you, but we act as if we are children of Satan. Our enemies laugh among themselves, and who can blame them, for we continually choose the same anger and hatred and greed and abuse of power and authoritarianism they promote. Have mercy on us, we pray! Humble our hearts as we approach the manger. Open our hearts to your amazing grace. Transform us by the miracle of you coming to live among us, and eradicate our hatred with the power of love. Assurance of God's Grace Yet (God), being compassionate, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them; often (God) restrained (God's) anger and did not stir up all (God's) wrath. (Psalm 78:38) Hear the Good News: in the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week. 12/17/2024 0 Comments Call to Worship, A4CGive ear, you who seek salvation!
You flock of lost sheep, come and be restored! Gather in, you tearful, you scorned. Let God's face shine upon you! Let us worship God! Micah 5:2-5a www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Micah%205%3A2-5a&version=NRSVUE

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) Let us confess our sin before God and seek God's mercy: Prayer of Confession Forgive us, God, for we have sinned: We live in fear. We fear the other -- the one who doesn't look like us or worship like us or speak lie us or love like us. We fear the stranger, the unhoused, the imprisoned, the hungry. We fear what they can teach us about the world, about life, about relationships, but mostly, about ourselves. We fear because we do not love. Perfect love casts out fear. But we have chosen not to love perfectly. Or at all. Loving those we fear is scarier still. Have mercy on us, we pray. Teach us the reward that comes from learning from one another vs. dehumanizing one another. Teach us to love as you love, so that we may proclaim your deeds through our own, bringing glory to your name. Assurance of God's Grace God has promised that when we confess our sin, God who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sin and remove it as far as the east is from the west, remembering it no more. (Psalm 103:12, Hebrews 8:12) Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week. 12/10/2024 0 Comments Call to Worship, A3CCome, you who trust in God.

You have looked favorably upon your people and redeemed us; you have raised up a Savior and restored to us the joy of salvation. Be present with your people, we pray. Be present with those who are longing for redemption, for those struggling with sin, for those carrying guilt, for those suffering the effects of sin in every imaginable way. Be present with your people, and place your healing hand upon them, that they may know newness of life. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel! You spoke through prophets of old that we would be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us. Be present with your people, we pray. Be present with your prophets and give them discernment to hear your voice, courage to speak truth to power and strength to stay the course in a world where the voices of those who dissent are silenced by those who abuse power. Be present with your people, O God, and help them to hear the prophets when they speak. Open their ears, we pray. Open their hearts. Help them to discern the difference between false prophets and real ones. Help them to listen for and follow your law of Love above all else. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel! You showed mercy to our ancestors and remembered your holy covenant; you rescued us that we might serve you in holiness and righteousness. Be present with your church, that we might serve you without fear, that together in the unity of the Spirit of the risen Christ, we might prepare the way for your return. Help us to shine your light in the midst of darkness and grant us hope in the places where we cannot see. |
