Jesus said, " Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous but sinners.”" (Matthew 9:13) Let us confess our sins before God and seek God's mercy: Prayer of Confession Forgive us, O God, for we have not trusted in you for protection ... for guidance ... for salvation. Too often -- maybe even all the time -- we trust in ourselves alone. We make decisions without discernment. We walk around with armor as if vulnerability is a risk we cannot afford. We act as if our salvation is dependent upon our own strength. Have mercy on us, we pray. Teach us what it looks like to rest secure in your steadfast love and mercy. Humble our hearts, God, and give us courage and hope. Assurance of God's Grace God said, "I alone am the one who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins." (Isaiah 43:25) Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

Out of the depths we cry to you, O Lord! (Psalm 130:1) Let us confess our iniquity before God and seek God's mercy: Prayer of Confession Forgive us, O God, for we have placed humans on thrones, giving them equality with you, as if that were even possible, as if we had such authority. In our arrogance, we have called humans "saviors," and referred to them as our "retribution." We have placed them on equal footing with Jesus, himself, and have worshiped them with unfaltering devotion. Forgive our idolatry, we pray. Open our eyes to the ways in which we enthrone fallible humans for our own gain. Re-orient our devotion to you, whose sovereignty is above all earthly rulers and whose steadfast love and faithfulness is beyond reproach. Assurance of God's Grace When we confess our sin, God, who is faithful and just, forgives us our sin and removes it as far as the east is from the west, remembering it no more. (Psalm 103:12, Hebrews 8:12) Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week. 11/19/2024 0 Comments Christ the King Sunday, Year BYou who seek a dwelling place for God,

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:6) Let us confess our waywardness before the Lord, and seek the Lord's mercy: Prayer of Confession Oh, God, forgive us! We have gone god-shopping, and the god we have found is branded by greed and abuse of power and slander. The commercials for this god heralded these characteristics as strength and we bought in. Lord, in your mercy, forgive us! You have shown us what is good: to love kindness, to do justice, and to walk humbly with you. But we have chosen the opposite, following leaders who defy the very thing we claim to uphold. Once again, we have gone astray, and we do so claiming to act in your name. Hold the mirror up for us, we pray, so that we can see ourselves for who and what we are. You have called us to be better than this, and we deserve the wrath that comes from worshiping idols. If there is anyone among us, Lord -- and we know there are, for at the very least there are children whose souls are as yet unmarred by the ugliness of our egos -- save us from ourselves, we pray, and remind us who we are and whose we are. Assurance of God's Grace In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace (Ephesians 1:7). Hear the Good News: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week. 11/12/2024 0 Comments Call to Worship, P+26BTake refuge in God,
