Call to Worship, P+19C

Picture
You who cry to God day and night
and you who cannot find the words
to speak your truth,
approach the throne of grace
in a spirit of confidence.
The Lord your God is waiting
to hear from you.

You who mete out justice
and you who withhold it at your whim,
approach the One whose justice
is greater than the justice
of this world.
Jesus, the Redeemer, stands ready
to receive you
and your judgment
in the name of Love.

Call upon the name of the Lord
and offer your songs of worship.

Prayer of Confession, P+18C

Picture
Call to Confession
for though they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their senseless hearts were darkened. (Romans 1:21) Let us confess our lack of gratitude for God’s healing activity in our lives and seek God’s mercy:

Unison Prayer of Confession
Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on us.
Jesus, Lord, have mercy on us.

We set up boundaries
between us and “undesirables.”
We excommunicate those who are suffering.
We fail to remember
or to give thanks
for the times in which our own leprosy --
figurative or literal --
quarantined us and left us feeling
bereft and alone,
and your grace healed us
and restored us to wholeness
in every sense of the word.
Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on us.
Jesus, Lord, have mercy on us.
Help us to invite the stranger and the outcast
into a communal dance of thanksgiving and praise.

Assurance of God's Grace
I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up
and did not let my foes rejoice over me.
O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
and you have healed me.  (Psalm 30:1-2)
Hear the Good News: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

Call to Worship, P+18C

Picture
Call on the name of the Lord,
you weary and worn,
you outcasts, separated from the community,
you who are seeking wholeness
from the Redeemer,
the Healer,
the Lord of All.

Call on the name of the Lord,
you grateful,
who have experienced life-altering
restoration
in the name of the Holy.
Lift up your voices in praise
and thanksgiving!

Julie served as a Commissioned Ruling Elder in a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation for thirteen years. She now absolutely delights in filling the pulpit for colleagues upon request, and looks forward to opportunities to do so. Her reformed perspective is sprinkled with humor and presented with authenticity, and she is open to creatively deconstructing worship as a means to helping congregants explore worship in transformational ways.

Julie and her husband, Ray, are parents of three adult children, and grandparents of four energetic and imaginative little people. She is an introverted-with-enough-extrovert-balance-to-keep-her-social, perfectionistic-with-hopper-tendencies, time and goal-oriented, kaleidoscopic, and insatiably curious child of God.

Julie participated in the 25th Seminar for Certified Zentangle(R) Teacher Training in June, 2019, trained by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. In addition to creating art as a personal spiritual practice, Julie also incorporates the Zentangle(R) method in Prayer Art Retreats in a variety of contexts, including church groups, friend gatherings, and at a local art gallery.
