Prayer of Dedication, P+12C

Picture
Gracious God,
you fill us with good things!
Nourished by your abundant provision,
we gratefully bring to your our gifts
of time, talent, and treasure
as we participate in the building of your kin-dom
on earth,
and we dedicate them as a commitment
to live according to your faithful guidance.
Bless these gifts, we pray,
and multiply them,
that the Good News may be refreshment
to the souls of your people in this community
and beyond.
Amen.

If you have been blessed by A Place of Grace, you are invited to support this ministry in our community and beyond. Electronic offerings may be made via Venmo (@Julie-Gvillo) or PayPal.me/JulieGvillo. Thank you, and God bless~

Prayer of Confession, P+12C

Picture
Call to Confession

You were unmindful of the Rock that bore you;
you forgot the God who gave you birth. (Deuteronomy 32:18)
Let us remember the God who gave us birth, confessing our sin and seeking God’s mercy:

Prayer of Confession

God, forgive us,
You spoke to us through prophets, but we turned away.
You came to us through Christ, but we crucified him.
You demonstrated love, but we chose dehumanization.
Following our own counsel,
we choose greed over generosity,
prejudice over diversity,
and power over partnership,
allowing the entitlement of ego
to overcome the humility of hospitality.
You long for your people to return to you
with repentant hearts,
but we resist your beckoning,
insisting on our own way.
Open our ears, we pray,
that our stubborn hearts might be transformed.
Lead us out of the chaos we have created
toward a just society for your name’s sake.

Assurance of God’s Grace

God has promised that when we confess our sin before God, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive us our sin, removing it as far as the east is from the west and remembering it no more. Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

Call to Worship, P+12C

Picture
People of God, come into God's presence with singing!
Remember God’s faithfulness to God’s people. God keeps God’s promises.
God frees the enslaved and fills God's people with bread and honey.

God sent God’s Son to set an example for God’s children
in overturning tables of grifters using God’s name to line their pockets.
God frees the enslaved and fills God's people with bread and honey.

God’s Word is the story of God’s people and God’s activity in the world.
Through it, we come to know the character of God
whose steadfast love for all God’s children endures forever.
God frees the enslaved and fills God's people with bread and honey.
Let us worship God!

Pastoral Prayer, P+11C

Picture
God, our Fortress,
the weary come to you for rest,
the fearful come to you for assurance,
the hopeless come to you for hope,
the humbled come to you for grace.
Exhausted by the turmoil of our world,
we crawl into your welcoming arms
looking for restoration.
Hear our prayers for strength, O God.

Be present with your people
in battle-torn territories,
grieving the loss of their homes
and their livelihoods
and their security
and those they love.

Be present, we pray, with those
who are starving for nutrition,
for connection,
for joy,
for hope.

Be present, merciful God, with those
whose voices have been silenced
and those who speak on their behalf,
with those whose needs are great
and those who have the power to address them,
with those whose liberty is threatened
and those who have pledged to protect it.

Work in and through your church
in this community
and around the world
to create places of refuge and hope
for all who need it.

In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Prayer of Dedication, P+11C

Picture
O God, In grateful thanksgiving for your enduring care from our birth until now, we bring our time, our talents, and our treasure, and we offer them to you, trusting that your faithfulness continues throughout all generations, and leaning in to that trust with hearts that are full. May these gifts create shelter for those who seek refuge in our community and beyond. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Prayer of Confession, P+11C

Picture
Call to Confession

To you they cried and were saved;
in you they trusted and were not put to shame. (Psalm 22:5)
Let us cry out to God and seek God's saving grace:

Prayer of Confession

God, forgive us.
We seek security in things of earthly value
like money and property and power.
We seek control over our lives
and the lives of others
instead of trusting that God’s grace is sufficient
in ways we cannot imagine.
We resist trusting God’s faithful presence through life’s challenges
by believing we can only depend on ourselves,
by becoming drunk on power,
by focusing on greed and fear.
When hope wavers,
we long for refuge,
but we seek it in the fault lines of human ego
instead of the rock-solid faithfulness
we find in you.
Open our hearts to the transforming power
of unconditional love.
Teach us to trust in the justice of equity
and the certainty of grace.
Help us to believe in and to join the work of the Spirit
that the kin-dom of God may be made real
in the present
for a future filled with the hope you desire for us.

Assurance of God's Grace

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace 8 that he lavished on us. (Ephesians 1:7-8) Hear the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!

Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.
The peace of Christ be with you.
Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week.

Call to Worship, P+11C

Picture
Like a mountain of rock, God stands faithfully,
generation after generation,
a fortress in times of chaos and tumult.
All who are weary, fearful, exhausted, and feeling alone
are welcomed into God’s steadfast presence
where yearnings for rest and peace and belonging

are met with compassion and comfort and community.
Come, you who long for the assurance

of God’s unshakable strength.
God is here.
Let us worship God!

Julie served as a Commissioned Ruling Elder in a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation for thirteen years. She now absolutely delights in filling the pulpit for colleagues upon request, and looks forward to opportunities to do so. Her reformed perspective is sprinkled with humor and presented with authenticity, and she is open to creatively deconstructing worship as a means to helping congregants explore worship in transformational ways.

Julie and her husband, Ray, are parents of three adult children, and grandparents of four energetic and imaginative little people. She is an introverted-with-enough-extrovert-balance-to-keep-her-social, perfectionistic-with-hopper-tendencies, time and goal-oriented, kaleidoscopic, and insatiably curious child of God.
