For waywardness kills the simple, and the complacency of fools destroys them; (Proverbs 1:32) Oh, how wayward we have gone, complacent in our foolishness and even defending it instead of confessing the error of our ways. Let us confess it now, and seek God's mercy. Prayer of Confession Son of Man, forgive us. We are the wealthy, comfortable in our security, and unwilling to give sacrificially for the good of the neighbor in need. Teacher, forgive us. We are the gluttons who eat from the fatted calf until we fall asleep in our plates, while those around us are starving for even a morsel of the feast we leave on the table. Redeemer, forgive us. We laugh as we scorn and belittle and label and tear down, and instead of becoming part of a solution, we create a greater chasm to be bridged. Speak to us in our folly, through the words of those we respect and will hear. Teach us how to follow in your footsteps, to love as we have been loved, and to right the wrongs that cause pain in your most vulnerable children, so that all people everywhere will know the blessing of abundance. Assurance of God's Grace Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6) This is the Good News: Christ came to feed our spiritual hunger, and in Christ, the Bread of Life, we find sustenance for our souls. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week. 2/8/2022 0 Comments Call to Worship, E6CCome near, you who are longing to be healed of your diseases,
and you who are troubled by anxiety and despair. Come near, you who are longing to feel the power of God move through you and transform you, body, mind, spirit, and emotion. Come near, you who are poor in spirit, and you who are hungry, and you who are weeping in sorrow; come, and receive a blessing. Come near, you who are living in enemy territory because you dare to follow a radical Rabbi who believes in loving your neighbor and welcoming the stranger and freeing the oppressed and caring for the poverty-stricken without asking if they are worthy. Come near and rejoice, for your reward is great in Heaven! 2/5/2022 0 Comments Prayers of the People, E5CWe are running out of patience, Lord,
tired of the in and out, from the shoreline to the deep and back again, weary from the labor-intensive work that feels as if it is fruitless. Strengthen our resolve, we pray, and renew our spirits, that we may have the physical and emotional strength to go where you send us. We are running out of resources, Lord, as is evident by our empty nets and our anxious pressing. We long to hear words of comfort and encouragement. We need a miracle. Bless us with net-breaking abundance, we pray, and restore to us the hope of a future beyond this long and languishing moment, for the sake of our families and our communities. We are aware of our unworthiness, Lord, and we kneel at your feet in awe and trembling. Whatever you ask of us, we will do. Wherever you go, we will follow. Cast out our fear, and lead us beyond our perceived limits to places of unimagined reward according to your will. 2/3/2022 0 Comments Playlist, E5CWill You Come and Follow Me
Dear Lord and Father of Mankind Jesus Calls Us Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore Lord of the Dance How Clear is Our Vocation, Lord You Walk Along Our Shoreline Would I Have Answered When You Called? How Firm a Foundation Praise to the Lord, the Almighty Blessed Jesus, At Your Word Amen, Amen From the Nets of Our Labor (We Rise Up and Follow) Called by Christ to be Disciples Fishers of People 2/2/2022 0 Comments Prayer of Confession, E5CCall to Confession
Jesus asked, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord’ and do not do what I tell you to do?” (Luke 6:46) Jesus has our number, and we have no answer except to confess our failures and seek God’s grace. Let us then confess on sin: Prayer of Confession Depart from us, Lord, for we are sinful people. Weary from working through this long, dark night, we are ready to put up our nets and go home. You ask for our gifts as vessels for your message, and we are reluctant to share them. You encourage us to try again to provide nourishment for ourselves and the community, and we protest that we have done all the things. All. The. Things. You demonstrate your faithfulness, tip your hand in the name of grace, calling us to discipleship, but we are slow to risk everything we have been taught matters, when all that really matters is following your lead. Jesus, Master, have mercy on us, and lead us in faith to unexplored areas of potential where your abundance exceeds our wildest imagination and your goodness surpasses the limits of our perception. Assurance of God’s Grace For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— not the result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9) This is the Good News: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another. The peace of Christ be with you. Please extend the peace of Christ to all whom you encounter this week. 2/1/2022 0 Comments Call to Worship, E5CCome you laborers,
you everyday workers -- saints and sinners alike -- and lay down your tools. Follow Jesus. Follow the Master of second chances. Follow God-with-us, and be amazed by the miracles that happen around you. Follow the Redeemer with confidence. Follow the Teacher, the Rabbi, to a new ministry, using everything you’ve learned before plus everything you will learn on this journey of discipleship. Come and worship. |
