Grace at the Gallery

Picture
Grace at the Gallery is a wonderful opportunity for A Place of Grace to hold several retreats in a single location. Starting

February 3rd, 2026, A Place of Grace will be hosting more retreats at Von Dell Gallery & Studios, 102 E Ferguson, Wood River,

IL! We've already partnered with Von Dell Gallery and Studios for the last nine years, hosting monthly Prayer Art retreats in

their teaching space. Now, we are expanding that amazing partnership to include a dedicated, cozy studio that's all our own,

which opens a number of additional opportunities, and we are SO excited!

Here's what you can expect:

Each Tuesday, starting February 3rd, 2026, you can come to Von Dell Gallery & Studios in Wood River, IL, and engage in either a taste of a practice during a 30-minute period that fits in your schedule or a two-hour retreat in the morning, afternoon, or evening. These practices will rotate from week to week, currently on a seven-week rotation schedule. People of all ages are invited to participate -- we even have after-school practice times for elementary, middle school, and high school students! A Place of Grace pastor, Julie Gvillo, will greet you and lead you in the practice of the week in the form that fits the time frame that is scheduled. We'll be downstairs in the morning and evening and upstairs through the middle of the day. Regular practice will help you  default to your spiritual training when life gets challenging and "the mountains shake in the heart of the sea." (Psalm 46:2) This creative calm in the chaos is intended to bring peace to your soul.

On the second and fourth Wednesdays, people struggling with grief can find comfort and healing in Artful Expressions of Grief through communal sharing, individual artwork, and guided practices led by Pastor Julie who has walked the path of grief herself.

The fourth Wednesday evening of the month, we will spend time with hymns of faith, exploring the lyrics and the stories behind the creation of those hymns even as we learn to play them on the most fun instruments ever created: BOOMWHACKERS! Come play with us!

People in need of healing rest can make individual appointments for Reiki and/or coaching in the studio space on Thursday afternoons with Pastor Julie who is also a Reiki Master Practitioner and ICF-trained Coach.

On the third Thursday, participate in our monthly Prayer Art Retreat and use your mad skills to create art in response to prayer and scripture. Worship unfolds. Communion is shared.

We ask that you RSVP to all events via the form on our Upcoming Events page.

A Place of Grace envisions a world transformed by the extravagant grace of God, filled with wonder at the peace of Christ which passes all understanding, and healed by the power of the Holy Spirit at work in God's people everywhere. Therefore, our mission is to nurture delight, facilitate healing, and inspire prayer in people of all ages and from all walks of life through creative spiritual practices. With grateful hearts, we praise God for opportunities to offer transformative, wonder-filled, and healing spaces where the churched and unchurched alike can deepen their relationships with God. No matter who you are, who you love, or how you live in this world, you are welcome in any and all of these spaces. There is no judgment here: this is a place of grace. <3

Julie participated in the 25th Seminar for Certified Zentangle(R) Teacher Training in June, 2019, trained by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. In addition to creating art as a personal spiritual practice, Julie also incorporates the Zentangle(R) method in Prayer Art Retreats in a variety of contexts, including church groups, friend gatherings, and at a local art gallery. Check out the Upcoming Events page for a calendar of events, or use the Contact Us page to inquire about scheduling an event with your group!
